Hendrik Hamann is senior manager and distinguished researcher in the Physical Sciences Department at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. An IBM Master Inventor, Hendrik holds approximately 100 patents and is currently helping to lead IBM’s worldwide activities in Internet of Things research.

He was on campus to deliver a lecture titled “Big Data Gets Physical” as part of the Mendoza College of Business’s 10 Years Hence speaker series, which explores issues, ideas, and trends likely to affect business and society over the next decade.

Starting with a primer on some common terminology, Hendrik talked to host Ted Fox about the technology rapidly transforming our day-to-day lives, the processes by which it is created and managed, and the role of universities in all of this—all during a breakfast rush that made the restaurant they were in unusually noisy. But you can hardly blame the other diners: Oatmeal crème brûlee is pretty exciting.

Hope you enjoy.
